Call for applications: Pro Helvetia Cairo COVID-19 fund

Parallel Sphere will support projects that explore new mediums and innovative formats of artistic creation, research, development, presentation and collaboration. Applicants can request up to 5 000 Swiss francs ($5 300). 

The programme is expected to facilitate further exchange, sustain dialogue, and collaboration in a world with mobility restrictions.

Who can apply?

• Applicants currently residents of or located in Arabic-speaking countries. African countries eligible to apply are Chad, Algeria, Eritrea, Djibouti, Egypt, Mauritania, Morocco, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia.
• Individuals, non-registered or registered collectives, groups or organisations.

Project eligibility

Pro Helvetia supports projects in the following categories:

• Music.
• Performing arts.
• Visual arts.
• Literature. 
• Design. 
• Interactive media.
• Interdisciplinary projects. 

Applicants should note:

• The proposal does not need to be tied to a direct outcome or product but should have a clear outline that can be continued and developed beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
• The proposal needs to outline in which ways the project can be developed to encourage exchange and collaboration between the Swiss and Arab artists and artistic scenes in the future.
• The grant will neither cover any structural expenses (institutional salaries, office rentals, etc.) nor the purchase of devices or equipment.
• Applicants must apply all recommended COVID-19 safety procedures for the safety of all artists and public involvement in the project.
• Projects should take place in 2020.

The application deadline is 12 July 2020. Successful applicants will be announced by 16 August 2020.
