Ghana's Juls becomes Recording Academy member
“We are pleased to offer you this opportunity to celebrate, represent and give back to music and its creators as a new member of the Recording Academy," the invitation letter to the musician, who shared portions of it on social media, reads. "The power of the Recording Academy’s collective voice increases exponentially with you."
The news has been received warmly by colleagues and fans alike, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate with the producer.
Born Julian Nicco-Annan, Juls joins more than 2 300 musicians and music professionals who have been invited to be members of the Recording Academy this year.
“The class was selected by a committee of industry peers based on exceptional contributions to the music industry,” the Recording Academy said.
Widely deemed an Afrobeats innovator, Juls has collaborated with such artists as Lauryn Hill, Sarkodie, Wizkid, Stonebwoy, Adekunle Gold and 2020 Grammy nominee Burna Boy.
He is the author of four EPs and five albums. He was named Producer of the Year at the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Ghana Music Awards UK, and in 2017 he got a nod in the Best African Act category at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards.
Juls’ latest single, ‘Blessed’, featuring Miraa May and Donae'o, premiered on 9 July.
