Call for registration: Pan-African hip hop contest
Well-established African rappers, DJs, street dancers, spoken-word poets and aerosol graffiti artists are encouraged to register for a chance to compete in a pan-African hip hop contest called The Mic: Africa that will be held on the Take Back the Mic (TBTM) digital platform.
One lucky winner will receive the golden mic trophy and a cash prize. According to the organisers, 10 applicants will be selected to compete from each of the following places:
- Accra (Ghana).
- Nairobi (Kenya).
- Mauritius (island-wide).
- Lagos (Nigeria).
- Kigali (Rwanda).
- Johannesburg (South Africa).
"In an effort to maintain the safest experience for all participants as the COVID-19 health crisis is assessed, we will be limiting contest participation to residents of specific cities," a press release reads.
"The first phase of the competition will determine the top three artists (semi-finalists) for each country. Semi-finalists will be asked to make themselves available to be filmed within a range of dates to be announced when the voting period begins."
The organisers have partnered with Trace TV and major local media houses in each country who will air an episodic TV series based upon the top contestants.
