Elaine, Ami Faku most streamed women on Spotify South Africa

Spotify unveiled the list to celebrate the dynamic female artists this Women’s Month in South Africa. The list tracks the most streamed female artists by local audiences and showcases the diversity of the music culture in the country with pop, soul, amapiano, Afrikaans and R&B female artists.

Elaine and Ami Faku were followed by new amapiano sensation Sha Sha, whose hit collaborations with DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small have earned her the nickname ‘The Amapiano Queen’. The list also features Demi Lee Moore, Karen Zoid, Shekhinah and Lady Zamar, among others.

Additionally, the music streaming service released the top 10 most-streamed songs by female artists in South Africa, with Elaine's songs taking seven of those spots.

Spotify says it will celebrate proud female voices during Women’s Month to highlight the importance of women are to the music industry.

“Throughout August, look out for some exciting Spotify playlist takeovers by a few of Africa’s top female creators," it said.
