Superstar 9ice fails in his bid for political office
A report on recent political party primaries in Nigeria, involving Nigerian Music superstar 9ice.
Nigerian Rap superstar had embarked on his recent political career, with the fanfare and hype that had attended his musical career. His recent famous horse-back campaign was widely reported in Nigerian media. He had fought for a slot in the Nigerian House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He had mounted a robust and high-profile campaign within his party, leveraging his high profile and extensive contacts.
However in the primaries held yesterday to select a candidate for the Ogbomosho North and South/Orire constituency, he lost out to a renowned grassroots candidate, Akeem Oyewumi, said to be the son of the King of Ogbomosho, the biggest town in the constituency. 9ice (real name Abolore Akande) could not be reached for comments, however sources close to the party state that he accepted the results in good faith.
It is unclear what his options shall be from hereon, but the silver-lining (for his fans at least) being that their hero will be around to continue his music career for another four years at least. This was also the case for rapper Tony Tetuila, former member of boy band, The Remedies, who also failed in his political bid.
