Nigerian Kora Master Tunde Jegede headlines New Horizon concert series
The Musical Society of Nigeria, has just announced dates for its New Horizon concert series, headlined by Anglo-Nigerian Cellist and Kora Master, Tunde Jegede.
The concert series has been scheduled for four dates between February and June 2015, with dedicated themes for each concert. On February 29, there shall be a celebration of Jazz and its African origins, with performance's by female percussionist Venus Bushfires (real name Helen Parker-Isibor), spoken word poet Dike Chukwumerije, Aga Beeks, Imoleayo Balogun and the Lagos Art ensemble.
On March 29, there shall be a performance of Tunde Jegede's Opera 'African Messiah', said to be at the confluence of Baroque and African influences. The performance shall be rendered by the MUSON Choir and the Samadhi Ensemble, conducted by Sir Emeka Nwokedi. On Sunday April 19, an opera of celebrated aria's, put together by soprano soloist Ranti Ihimoyan, shall be featured. The performers shall include world-renowned, African-American diva Laverne Williams, as well as Nigeria's Fatima Anyekema, Chika Ogbuji and Gechi Egbunine.
The grand finale of the series shall on June 22, feature a concert titled 'Emidy who dared to dream', based on the life of the 19th century composer and violinist Joseph Antonio Emidy, who traveled across Africa, South America and Europe. The concert shall feature Tunde Jegede, Argentinian flautist and singer Diana Baroni and Indian percussionist, Renu Hussain.
All of the concerts are scheduled to start at 6pm on each day, at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON centre, Onikan, Lagos.
