Korea Arts Management Service invites creatives from around the world to register for its 2020 edition of the Performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS), South Korea, which will be held virtually from 12 to 15 October.
PAMS seeks to revitalise rational distribution and exportation of Korean performing arts that are based on diversified orientation and creation. African creatives are encouraged to participate in the free event, which will present an opportunity to network with South Korean and international performing arts companies, agencies, festivals, venues and institutions.
This year’s edition will discuss a re-imagination and innovation of the arts in preparation for a new normal of coexistence with the virus and a time of resilience and recovery in the area of international exchange.
The organisers will showcase music, theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary arts productions and video presentations with new approaches and ideas from international artists.
The programme will include the following:
- PAMS Ground – A digital exhibition booth for participants to promote and share your ideas and projects.
- PAMS Choice – A showcase platform for Korean theatre, dance, music and interdisciplinary arts productions and video presentations with new approaches and ideas of international artists.
- PAMS Pitching – A platform to share new ideas, Korean and International productions as well as projects to search for the partners.
- PAMS Salon – A roundtable panel discussions on current issues in the field of contemporary performing arts and international mobility faced with an outbreak of COVID–19.
- Assembly 2020 – A platform to discuss and explore new ways to carry out international mobility and exchange in the field of art during the time in which physical movement is limited or not possible.
- PAM Online Dating – A platform for connecting and networking.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected societal and economic structures at a global level but has also had a great impact on our personal lives," PAMS creative director Kyu Choi said. "The arts and international exchange fields are no exception to that impact, and they are now faced with a new reality. Meanwhile, there are ongoing considerations for various methods and policies that will help us return to our normal lives, whatever that normal might be, and welcome the return of theatres and festivals.
“At the same time, due to the lockdown of cities and borders and social distancing practices, we have realised that returning to the normality we knew before is impossible. And so, we are presented with the fundamental questions of what the arts are and what the role of the arts is, particularly as a sustainable platform for international exchange."
