Ingoma Nshya

Ingoma Nshya is a visionary grass roots project with multiple goals – healing, reconciliation, women’s social and financial empowerment, and artistic excellence.

They are Rwanda's first-ever women's drumming group – in a country where women were previously forbidden to touch a drum. The group’s very existence marks a new beginning. It demonstrates the power of thinking outside the box, the power of small projects to generate big change, the courage to dream and to imagine new ways of living. Ingoma Nshya proves that it is possible to break down stereotypes, to combat hopelessness, to move beyond hatred, violence and personal tragedy, and to consider radically new possibilities.
