Through her musical passion Kagiso continues to grace various performance stages with her velvety voice and plenitude of musical talent, slowly rising to make her mark not only on the South African musical scene but on the universal stage at large. She began her musical journey of over 15 years ago in high school as a soprano Choralist and continued her musical journey in community theatre, various art spaces & live events with a special focus on the Afro Soul, Jazz & Gospel genres. Her latest musical performance offering titled “Emissions of Healing” an experimental musical performance that explores how Mycelium - as metaphor for interconnectedness - might contribute towards cultural healing within South Africa, through artistic practice. A concept which was birthed through “Conduits of Care” a collaborative research proposal outlined in the collaborative creative output & performance through the Artist-In-Residence programme at the University of Johannesburg 2022/23.
In 2021 she offered “Kwasukasukela” at the Virtual “My Body My Space” – Public Arts Festival. Her Artistic Statement
I’m a passionate advocate of the arts, performance art in particular for it allows me to express my unique creative self. Performance art unites people of innumerable cultures and religions through its indulgent in entertainment, laughter and the positive environment that cultivates therapy. The musical, dance and dramatic pieces I create connect people with their roots, their Creator and the universe whilst simultaneously exerting on addressing the social ills we face as a society.
Furthermore, my work utilises the creative methods of the Arts to address social issues and encourage positive social change particularly in the lives of young people by equipping them with life skills, art education and professional skills. Hence, I daily find solace in developing projects...
