US superstar Trey Songz returns to South Africa for Women’s Day
August is Women’s Month in South Africa, with 9 August holding particular significance as Women’s Day, an annual public holiday to commemorate the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of apartheid Pass Laws to women. Today the holiday aims to celebrate the achievements of the women of South Africa and to advance women's ongoing struggle for empowerment and full equality. The country has come a long way as a nation in addressing its inequalities, although much work still needs to be done.
In acknowledging the strides made by women in South Africa, local promoter Elite Concerts is staging two concerts to celebrate the achievements of South Africa’s women. Headlining the concerts will be American heart-throb Trey Songz, who will be joined on stage by top local acts, who are still to be announced. The concerts take place at Moses Mabhida People’s Park in Durban on Saturday 8 August and the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on Sunday 9 August.
Rampa Masoko, CEO of Elite Concerts, said: “We at Elite Concerts pride ourselves in hosting the best entertainers and bringing them to the people, and what better way to celebrate Women’s Day than with the star that is Trey Songz. His work speaks for itself and he will serve as eye candy for the ladies. Our women are true inspirations and we would like to reward them with a special night out of music and affection with the R&B crooner. We trust that they will enjoy our treat!”
Trey Songz - born Tremaine Aldon Neverson and affectionately known as 'Trigga' – is the hitmaker behind songs such as ‘Say Ahh’, ‘Bottoms Up’, ‘Can’t Help But Wait’ and ‘Foreign’. He has worked with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Kelly Roland, Drake, T.I and J.Cole and recently released a new album, Trigga Reloaded. He was previously in South Africa in 2014 for the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban. He also recently performed in neighbouring Namibia on 30 May this year. This time around he is being billed by the organisers as the ‘ultimate man crush’ who will be ‘serenading women… in true gentleman style’.
Ticket prices range from R595 to R1 195 and are available from Ticket Pro as well as participating Edgars, CNA and Jet Stores.
