African musicians to collaborate with Ne-Yo on music show
Five African artists drawn from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique and Nigeria will collaborate with American R&B singer Shaffer Chimere Smith, better known by his stage name as Ne-Yo on Coca-Cola's flagship African music show, Coke Studio Africa in Kenya.
Ne-Yo will be the guest star alongside Tanzanian artist Ali Kiba, Wangechi (Kenya), Maurice Kirya (Uganda), Dama Do Bling (Mozambique) and Ice Prince (Nigeria) for a mega mash up.Following the success of Coke Studio Africa Season 2, the show was renewed for the third season and has seen artists from around Africa come to Kenya to collaborate.
The show, which unlike other music programmes that focus on the emergence of a winner, is a non-competitive format which seeks to bring together and showcase the diversity of African musical talent. It also gives upcoming artists the opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent.
The third season has featured 26 of Africa’s musicians from Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to collaborate on a unique format of mash-ups in creating 52 new songs. Musician and producer Zwai Bala, of ground-breaking South African Kwaito group TKZee, has been the show’s music director while Brett Lotriet, a renowned International TV director and producer as the season three series producer.
The musicians along with the talented house band have since 12 May 2015 presented new tracks each week which are produced by both local and international producers. Some of the producers include Jaaz Odongo, Eric Musyoka and Kevin Provoke from Kenya, Cobhams Asuquo, Masterkraft and Chopstix from Nigeria, Owour Arunga from USA, Nahreel from Tanzania and Silvastone from the UK.
