Morocco: Visa For Music to go ahead in November
The organisers of Visa For Music have announced that the 2020 edition of the event will go ahead as scheduled despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's music conference will be held in Rabat, Morocco, from 8 to 21 November and run under the theme, The Deconstructed Edition. The organisers have programmed conference sessions, training and workshops that will be held in an in-person format and streamed online.
The conference will address the role and socio-economic bearing of the cultural and creative industries. The training and workshops will seek to develop and strengthen artists’ skills to facilitate professional integration and encourage an entrepreneurial path in the cultural sector.
Meanwhile, the showcases will be pre-recorded and streamed live on Visa For Music’s social media platforms. The programmed musicians will represent Morocco’s various regions and cities including Rabat, Skhirat, Témara, Casablanca, Oujda, Chefchaouen, Safi, Essaouira, Azilal, Kelaat M’Gouna, Boumalne Dades, Fnideq and Agadir.
“The crisis that the whole world is going through today is forcing artists and cultural actors, to whom we belong, to reinvent themselves and to find new ways of working, new livelihoods and new ways of connecting with the public, constituting a real paradigm shift,” Visa For Music said.
“We would like to continue to participate in the structuring and professionalisation of the music industry in the development of the cultural and creative industries and the creation of value for artists by organising an output adapted to the current context and preserved in resilience. It will therefore be mainly dedicated to Moroccan artists and professionals or residents of Morocco.”
Visa For Music focuses on African and Middle Eastern music. It is held annually to foster the development of the music market in the region and increase the visibility and professionalism of the sector. Professionals who attend the festival include artists, agents, record company executives, media practitioners, managers, trainers, and representatives of cultural institutions and foundations.
