Uganda’s Bebe Cool wins award in Canada

Winning this award, Bebe Cool shielded off competition from big names like Shatta Wale, Cynthia Morgan, Burna Boy and Patoranking. This victory is one of many milestones for the musician in 2015. His song ‘Love you Everyday’ has received substantial airplay on MTV Base and Trace TV. Earlier in the year he won the HiPipo Music Award for Artist of the Year and bagged a nomination at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) for Best Video. His 14-track album Go Mama has also been well received and is reported to be topping charts in various countries, including the South Pacific island nation of Fiji.

Bebe Cool started his career in 1996 in Nairobi, Kenya but moved back to Uganda a few years later. He was one of the first artists affiliated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and record label in Kenya. Speaking recently to The East African, the singer said: "Our music is competitive and getting better each day, but the fruits will only be visible in the next 20 years for those who can sustain it. This is because it is a new industry."

The African Entertainment Awards, also known as AEA, are dedicated to honouring achievements in African entertainment. They aim to showcase the rich culture of African art and entertainment, by recognizing individuals who have positively impacted the African entertainment industry, particularly in Canada. The annual award show marked its fourth edition in 2015. The awards should not be confused with the African Entertainment Awards USA which will be held for the first time on 31 October this year.
