Call for artists: Safaricom Jazz Festival 2016
Kenya’s jazz extravaganza, the Safaricom Jazz Festival, is calling on musicians to apply for participation at the 2016 edition of festival. Interested participants can apply as a group or as individuals.
Launched in 2014, the annual Safaricom Jazz has since then seen both international and local acts perform to Nairobi music enthusiasts who crave quality music. Among the artists who have graced the Safaricom Jazz festival are Salif Keita, who was the headlining act at the August 2015 edition, Richard Bona, Jimmy Dludlu, Jonathan Buttler, Eddie Grey, Chris Bittok and The Beathogs.
The festival was also created to grow local talent with a view to building a strong jazz culture in Kenya. Usually a dynamic affair with both new and old artists taking to the stage, the event supports Ghetto Classics, a youth orchestra started in 2012 in Nairobi’s Korogocho slum by Elizabeth Njoroge.
To apply, artists are encouraged to apply at the Safaricom Jazz website and should submit their applications by Friday 11 September. Auditions are scheduled for 13 September at the Michael Joseph Centre in Nairobi.
