WeHeartBeat to host NyegeNyegeBEATS Live Showcase Picnic
WeHeartBeat will be hosting the NyegeNyegeBEATS Live Showcase Picnic on 5 December 2020. The live-stream event will feature performances by four southern African artists, namely Muzi, Red Robyn, Morena Leraba and Espacio Dios. The line-up will be complemented by two pre-recorded DJ sets – one by Gina Jeanz and another by Sptmbr Yngstr.
In tandem with NyegeNyegeBEATS Live Showcase Picnic, which will be streamed from Johannesburg, Nyege Neyege Festival’s signature party will take place in Uganda with both events crossing over to each other.
The live showcase picnic is supported by the Music In Africa Live (MIAL) project, which assists musicians and the industry at large to navigate the challenges and new realities introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Covering all African countries, MIAL offers financial support to operators, to enable them to create high-quality productions and promote, market and showcase their content to a wider global audience – primarily via digital means.
Founded in 2015, Nyege Nyege Festival is a multi-day, multi-stage event that usually takes place against the backdrop of the shores of the Nile Discovery Beach in Jinja, Uganda. As the biggest electronic music festival in East Africa, it showcases contemporary African music with an electronic focus.
This year, Nyege Nyege Festival will explore a hybrid combination of immersive digital experiences and intimate live events, with remote viewing parties and live performances happening at locations throughout the world. One of those locations is the NyegeNyegeBEATS Live Showcase Picnic in Johannesburg.
“During a period where international travel, touring and live events have been prohibited, now more than ever it has become critical for us to look at alternative methods of creative expression and collaboration,” WeHeartBeat director Dominique Soma says. “Having built up a solid repertoire in the local live event space, we are now looking to extend our scope of work across the continent and continue to bring people together around common goals of intention and purpose – a partnership between WeHeartBeat and Nyege Nyege Festival is therefore a perfect match. We thank Music In Africa Live for making this collaboration possible.”
Tickets to the event are available here. Register for the live stream via the Nyege Nyege official website.
