New classical music series to debut in Kenya

Between 27 and 31 January Timofeyevsky will bring his fearless and original interpretation of Liszt, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Debussy and Gershwin to Nairobi in three major public events at the Michael Joseph Centre (January 27 and 28) and the newly renovated Kenya National Theatre on January 30.

Moscow born, Timofeyevsky is a recent winner of the BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year award. He graduated with honours from the Royal Academy of Music and now lives in London. While in Kenya, Timofeyevsky will give a special concert at the Kenya National Theatre for young Kenyan musicians from disadvantaged communities, who might otherwise never have such an opportunity.

Through the series of concerts,  Nairobi Classics will seek to affirm the power of music to change lives. According to the organizers the proceeds from this series will benefit the Art of Music Foundation, which provides transformative music education to Kenyan youth in Nairobi's Korogocho informal settlements. Art of Music Foundation also funds the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya.

In addition to providing critical funding for this unique charity, Nairobi Classics aims to create a meaningful and inspiring exchange between top international virtuosos and young Kenyan talent.
