Music In Africa: Call for French Content Editor (South Africa)

Pan-African music portal, Music In Africa (www.musicinafrica.net), seeks an enthusiastic French Content Editor to join our team in Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write French content
- Sub-edit French content from other writers
- Assume overall responsibility for French content production.
- Supervise and grow team of translators: allocate and commission work, check/sub-edit translations, and handle invoicing/payments.
- Assist regional editors in building a strong team of contributors for French regions.
- Moderate (edit and publish) submitted French content, ensuring that content conforms to Music In Africa guidelines.
- Identify English stories that need to be translated into French, and vice versa.
- Ensure consistent and organised communication with users, management and content providers.
- Drive French social media campaigns.
- Prepare content for the French newsletter.
Other Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with existing and new partners.
- Assist in organising ‘offline’ events (eg. workshops and concerts).
- Attend and review industry events, expos, forums and conferences.
- Collaborate with other regional editors, content managers and contributors.
- Represent Music In Africa at conferences, festivals and other relevant events.
- Contribute to the conceptualisation and evolution of content with forward-thinking ideas, particularly in relation to content types, editorial workflow and content layout.
- Assist in the running of Music In Africa office.
- Assist in the conceptualisation of viable business strategies for the portal.
- Develop sound content plans and ensure full implementation.
- Perform the day-to-day administration duties of the project and other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Diploma/Degree in Journalism, Communications, etc).
- Minimum five years' experience in new media, with editorial experience.
- Experience in the African music sector or related fields.
- Excellent written French, with sub-editing experience.
- Excellent written English will be an advantage.
- Flawless attention to detail.
- Strong management, coordination and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage teams in a multi-dimensional management structure across multiple regions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Exceptional music knowledge.
- Desire to contribute to the local music industry
- Strong understanding of SEO, social media principles, basic HTML and digital content creation.
- Experience in running communication campaigns using digital media.
