Call for artists: Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) 2016 in Reunion
Applications are now open for artists looking to showcase their talent at the 5th edition of the Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) taking place from 30 May to 2 June 2016 on Reunion Island.
The first of its kind for the region, IOMMA is held annually over three days and nights. It positions itself as a hub of the music industry in the Indian Ocean, a space for meetings, exchanges and opportunities between artists and music industry professionals in the Indian Ocean as well as those from Europe, Australia, America and Asia.
IOMMA aims to enable Indian Ocean artists to get exposure and to export themselves on major new markets throughout the world; to enable Indian Ocean entrepreneurs and companies to find new market within the region and internationally; to develop a new network between artists and professionals of the music industry within the region and then to create bridges to similar international networks; and to further professionalize artists and industry professionals to meet new regional and international challenges through seminars, mentoring and skills exchanges with international colleagues. Besides the artist showcases, IOMMA offers conference panels, workshops and one-on-one meetings.
Last year's edition saw 19 groups from across the Indian Ocean (including Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, India and China), as well as 200 local and international professionals (such as festival programmers, promoters, producers, institutions and the media) attending from more than 20 countries.
As usual, IOMMA this year takes place immediately ahead of the Sakifo music festival on Reunion from 3 to 5 June 2016.
