Asa to play Lagos homecoming concert
Although it's the city she calls home, the city that in some respects made her, Lagos has never had the pleasure of a concert given by the Nigerian singer and songwriter Asa. But now with a concert taking place at the Eko Convention Centre on Sunday 1 May, this is about to change.
Upon receiving the news social media was agog with excitement. The excitement was shared by the singer herself who shared the news to her online followers. “Finally,” she wrote, “Lagos I am coming home.” Asa is expected to share the spotlight with a few other performers, presumably handpicked by the Paris-resident singer and her management.
The concert will close her long running tour of her last album Bed of Stone. Released in 2014, the album has yielded the singles ‘Dead Again’, ‘Eyo’, and ‘Satan be Gone’.
“I am currently working on the Asa Live In Lagos concert,” Asa said in an interview with Nigerian newspaper Punch, published online recently. “It is the last and final stop for the Bed of Stone tour and I am in Los Angeles at the moment working on my next album.”
The singer has so far released three albums, starting with her much loved self-titled debut in 2007. That album housed the hits ‘Jailer’ and ‘Fire on the Mountain,’ with her compatriot Cobhams Asuquo receiving major production credit. Three years later, her follow-up album Beautiful Imperfection saw the artist change producer and employ more diverse instrumentation. She has however kept the same manager, Janet Nwose, for over a decade.
In March, Asa performed a set at a Lagos event, closing the Etisalat Prize for Literature ceremony, following a performance by Darey. Her performance was met with enthusiastic notices by her fans online. More of the same would be expected when the lady gets onstage in May.
