Win tickets to see Mariah Carey live in South Africa
American diva Mariah Carey, the best-selling female artist of all time, will be performing in South Africa for the first time as part of her Sweet Sweet Fantasy world tour. Music In Africa is giving away double tickets to two lucky fans.
Following her sold-out residency in Las Vegas, USA and her recent greatest hits compilation #1 to Infinity, the global superstar will be taking her fans on a thrilling journey of wonder as she performs her biggest hits. First announced in December 2015, the Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour spans 27 dates in Europe, Africa and North America. The tour kicked off in Glasgow, Scotland on 15 March, marking the first time the singer has done a significant tour of mainland Europe in 13 years.
The South African leg of the tour will see her perform be in Cape Town on Tuesday 26 April at the Cape Town Stadium. She then moves on to Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday 29 April, before ending with two nights at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg on 1 and 2 May.
Mariah Carey is a musical icon and a pop phenomenon who has sold over 220 million records since the release of her self-titled debut in 1990, featuring her breakthrough hit ‘Vision of Love’. Since then she has continued to release albums on a regular basis, most recently Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009), Merry Christmas II You (2010) and Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse (2014). Defying convention and paving the way for today’s female singer-songwriters, an impressive 17 of her 18 Billboard No. 1 singles have been self-penned - more than any other solo artist. These include 'Fantasy', 'Always Be My Baby', 'Hero', 'Touch My Body', 'One Sweet Day' and 'We Belong Together'.
With her distinctive five-octave vocal range and prolific songwriting and producing talent, Mariah has defined the modern pop artist, earning countless awards, including Billboard's Artist of the Decade award, a World Music Award for World's Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium and BMI's Icon Award for outstanding achievements in songwriting. No stranger to diva tendencies, she recently insured her vocal chords and legs for a whopping $70 million. Mariah’s ongoing impact transcends the music industry: she has made her mark on film and TV and has also contributed to a range of philanthropic causes, including domestic and international children’s charities.
The African leg of the Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour is hosted by Big Concerts in conjunction with Live Nation (the US company that recently bought a controlling interest in the SA promoter) and is officially presented by Mzansi Magic Music, Channel 24 and various local radio stations.
In a message to fans (who she affectionately terms her ‘lambs’) about the upcoming tour, Mariah expressed her excitement: “Lambily, it’s been too long! I’m so excited to be coming to South Africa to perform for you all. I promise we’re going to share the most amazing moments together and I have so many surprises in store for you daahhlings! Can’t wait to see you all in your hometown!”
In a recent telephone interview with Cape Town-based radio station KFM, Mariah said fans can to “expect the unexpected… I may change the show by the time I get there, you never know!”
Tickets for her shows are available at Computicket. Stay up to date with tour announcements via Mariah’s website.
