Spotify launches songwriter hub Noteable

The company refers to the new platform as a “new global home for songwriters, producers and publishers”. It follows the launch of its Songwriters Hub service in December, which compiles playlists and podcasts by or about the songwriting community.

The new website, which comes with its own newsletter, Instagram and Twitter account, provides users with information about new opportunities, the latest updates on relevant products and services, new programmes, video resources and prospects to connect or collaborate with each other.

The site essentially merges the company’s various components of its songwriter and publishing relations, including Spotify Publishing Analytics, Spotify for Artists, Songwriter Pages, Songwriters Hub and SoundBetter, as well as its songwriter-focused video series on Instagram.

Spotify says it will introduce later this year a new series for students as well as emerging songwriters and producers titled How I Started, How It’s Going, which will feature world-class producers who will take viewers through their careers. It will also introduce Song Start, an educational video series in partnership with Ali Tamposi and Tamar Kaprelian, who will coach upcoming songwriters and artists.

“It’s all the things we’ve been doing: collectively we’ve had more and more products, tools, ways of interacting with us, opportunities for songwriters, producers and publishers,” Spotify global head of songwriter and publishing relations Jules Parker said. “All those different things. We need a thread to run through them and have a home and a destination where people can access information about it. It’s a specific space for the publishing side of the industry, but deeply interconnected with everything we’re doing at Spotify.”

The company says Noteable will extend to physical events once they become possible again, and also plans to translate the site’s content into 18 languages over the next year.

Spotify aims to create and connect more opportunities for its users with the new platform. However, the company says it has no ambitions of becoming an actual publisher.

Meanwhile, the platform this week said it was testing on-screen lyrics, a feature that will display lyrics synced with listeners’ music. However, the tool is only available to some users in the US for the time being.
