Kunle Ayo, Vusi Mahlasela, Lira and more for 'Symphony In Blue'
Five of the most talented musicians in South Africa are teaming up with a top local chef and an internationally renowned whiskey brand for a series of live events at Winnie’s Soul & Jazz Restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg from 14 to 18 June.
Johnnie Walker welcomes its renowned global ambassador Tom Jones to South African shores to team up with chef Benny Masekwameng and A-list African musicians for the highly prestigious Symphony in Blue, an intimate five-night spectacular where guests will be immersed in the Johnnie Walker Blue Label liquid as it’s perfectly paired with a specially designed three-course menu as well as fine live music.
The event will culminate each night in a memorable experience as some of Africa’s greatest musical talent headline each evening’s entertainment. Fast-rising soul singer Maleh will perform on 14 June, Nigerian jazz guitarist and producer Kunle Ayo on 15 June, jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini on 16 June, internationally revered singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela on 17 June and Afro-soul diva Lira on 18 June. Lira was of course recently revealed as South Africa's addition to Johnnie Walker’s global list of ‘JoyWalkers’.
Guests attending the Symphony in Blue will also be able to listen to Tom Jones (not to be confused with the famous Welsh singer of the same name), who as Johnnie Walker’s global ambassador is dubbed ‘the Keeper of the Quaich’ (a traditional drinking cup) and is known to many around the world for his unwavering passion for fine spirits. They will be taken on a rare culinary experience with chef Benny Masekwameng, who is also passionate about sharing his culinary knowledge and will add to the experience by curating a special three-course menu that will be exclusively paired for the rare blend.
Vongani Chinkanda, marketing manager at Diageo, the company that oversees the Johnnie Walker brand in South Africa, said: “We are privileged to give consumers an opportunity to engage with our global brand ambassador Tom, and our partnership with the revered Chef Benny and the inclusion of the stellar musical line-up will ensure a truly rare experience. We are delighted to host this event and urge consumers to book their space as tickets are very limited.”
Previous versions of the Symphony in Blue have taken place in London, Malaysia and Monaco.
