Songtrust is a global music royalty collection service owned by Downtown Music Publishing. The partnership offers members of Beatchain a 20% discount on the Songtrust registration fee, giving them access to the royalty aggregation tool.
“For artists, the Beatchain-Songtrust platform pairing is really a no-brainer,” Beatchain CTO Luke Mendoza said. “Our platform offers the best value marketing tool out there for artists, and Songtrust is the world’s smartest digital tool for collecting royalties off original songs across the globe. You could look at it as a one-two punch in moving from unknown artist to full-time professional musician.”
Founded in 2017, Beatchain was has developed an expansive collection of tools for any level of artist, from amateur to professional. The platform offers various services – from data dashboards to the FanBuilder feature, which allows users to purchase automated digital ads using AI to find and advertise to potential fans.
Songtrust was established in 2011. The self-service platform offers facilities such as quarterly payments for artists, direct licensing, expansive affiliations and 100% of the frontend on sync fees. Its database boasts more than 300 000 songwriters and administers over 2 million songs in about 150 countries. The company works with publishers and distributors such as CD Baby, Downtown Music Publishing, Symphonic Distribution, Audiomack and Sub Pop Publishing, among others.
In 2019, the company claimed that the royalties it collected for songwriters, producers and other rightsholders grew by nearly 250%. In September last year, Songtrust also partnered with Ghana-based music distribution and rights management company Highvibes. The two companies say that 95% of songwriters in Africa are currently unpublished.
