Accra concert to honour taxi drivers
A concert in celebration of public transport drivers will be held in Accra, Ghana on 30 July.
- KK Fosu will be performing at the Taxi and Trotro concert in Accra.
Tagged ‘The Taxi and Trotro Concert’, the event is scheduled to occur at the end of a festival holding at the Ghana’s Trade Fair Centre located at Labadi.
According to Events Republic, an events planning and artist management firm, the concert is aimed “at celebrating the hard working men and women in the Urban Transport System” because “workers in the transport system have not been celebrated well although they have sacrificed their daily lives to transporting us safely to and from our various destination.”
Explaining why the focus on public transport, an official statement from Events Republic said, "A lot of people are of the misconception that Taxi and Trotro drivers are usually uneducated and unwise but the irony is that, educated people sit in these cars, willingly hand over their lives to these uneducated drivers till they reach their final destination, they actually use these means of transport until they can afford their own cars.
It is thus very imperative to appreciate their work and also use this opportunity to give them some education and a one day vacation from their work place. It is also a good time for corporate Ghana to come together to remember all the fun moments they spent in these means of transport."
The concert will see such artists as Yaw Stone, Wutah Kobby, KK Fosu, Dada Hafco, Nana Quame, Rudebwoy Ranking, Epixode, Quame Zaggy take to the stage.
“I have no doubt the show is going to be marvellous,” said Team Leader of Events Republic Mel Kwesi Davis,” because of the selection of artists (spanning across live band performances to dancehall) and how much our team has put into this show. I entreat every Ghanaian to come to the show.”
Davis said that the event will be a gathering of station masters, bookmen, drivers, drivers mate, passengers, car owners, bachelors and bachelorettes.
