Deezer offering free 3-month subscriptions in SA
Audio streaming service Deezer is offering free three-month subscriptions for its Premium, High-Fidelity (HiFi) and Family plans to users in South Africa.
To benefit from the offer, interested users need to sign up with a valid payment option here. The deal is available until 30 April.
Last year, Deezer reduced the subscription fee for its HiFi tier from R120 ($8) to R90 monthly. The HiFi and Family plans now cost R90 per month while the Premium tier will set users back R60.
The Premium plan gives subscribers access to a catalogue of more than 73 million songs and over 34 000 live radio stations, with added features such as Flow, SongCatcher, curated playlists, offline listening, and sing-along lyrics, among others.
In addition to Premium services, the Family tier allows up to six profiles across 13 connected devices such as mobile phones, tablets, PCs, smart TVs and speakers.
HiFi, which is Deezer’s highest subscription tier, delivers top-quality audio content in the uncompressed ‘free lossless audio codec’ (FLAC) format with about 70 million tracks. HiFi users also get additional access to the 360 by Deezer app, which lets users play music in Sony’s 360 Reality Audio format.
At 1.411kbps, FLAC is currently the best quality offered by major music streaming platforms. Deezer’s Premium tier allows a maximum streaming quality of 320kbps. Deezer and Tidal are the only music streaming services that offer true lossless audio in the country. However, Spotify in February announced that it would add a lossless audio streaming tier to its platform sometime in 2021.
In other news, Deezer in Kenya slashed its monthly subscription fees by nearly 50% in January. The Premium plan now costs subscribers in the country about $3, while the HiFi and Family tiers cost about $4.50 each.
Meanwhile, the company has announced that it will launch a number of initiatives in support of female artists in the music industry on International Women’s Day on 8 March.
