Uganda’s Bebe Cool to celebrate 18 years in music with Kampala concert

Speaking at the press launch on 15 July at Liquid Silk in Kampala, the singer promised his fans a rendition of the best of his work over the years, in an arrangement that aims to tell to his "life story" as an individual and an artist. The four-hour experience will see him perform with a live band.

Bebe Cool's fans have more to look forward, as the artist recently hinted at a new single. “Dancehall Commando... watch out for my new dancehall tune 'Dede' that is dropping soon,‪” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Born Moses Ssali, Bebe Cool started his career around 1998 in Nairobi, Kenya, but a few years later returned to Uganda. He was one of the first artists affiliated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and label in Kenya. In 2005 together with the Kenyan duo Necessary Noize (which comprised Wyre and Nazizi), Bebe Cool formed a reggae group known as the East African Bashment Crew, which went on to release one album, Fire. Over the years he has established himself as one of the biggest names in Ugandan reggae.

In 2015 he released a new album, Go Mama, which critics have lauded as showcasing the artist’s vocal versatility. The multilingual 14-track album was mastered by Oscar Lo Brutto in London. The artist has continued to impress with his latest releases. In April 2016 he released the single ‘African Girl’. His latest single ‘Kabulengane’ fuses Ugandan and Jamaican club music.
