The Bayimba Honours is aimed at celebrating individuals who have done outstanding work within the arts and culture sector in Uganda. The event will recognize individuals, artists, families, institutions and companies with an outstanding record of philanthropy aimed at the development of the arts and culture in Uganda. The event will comprise of an awards ceremony with performances and a gala dinner.
According to the organizers, one of the major challenges hindering the growth and development of the arts and culture in Uganda today is the lack of a significant local financial support. Over the years, much of the work done has been supported by foundations and sympathizers from outside of Uganda. As such, the Bayimba Foundation seeks to gradually increase the level of giving to the cultural sector by encouraging appreciation of the arts and promoting a culture of philanthropy in Uganda.
The event will also enable cultural operators in Uganda to reflect on the vision and obligation of individuals, companies and organizations to the public good.
How to nominate
Nominations are open to living citizens and residents of Uganda.
If you would like to nominate an individual, organisation or group, please review the categories, complete the online questionnaire and submit it to: Bayimba Cultural Foundation, P.O. Box 34806, Kampala, Uganda or by email to honours@bayimba.org. The deadline for nominations is Saturday 20 August 2016.
All nominations will be vetted by the Bayimba Honours Committee.
The Bayimba Foundation was founded in 2006 with the aim of uplifting arts and culture (specifically visual and performing arts) in Uganda and East Africa by stimulating original intra- and interdisciplinary cultural exchange and creativity.
