Call for applications: Digital Lab Africa mentorship and incubation programme
Digital Lab Africa (DLA) is calling on African artists, producers, designers, startups, collectives, students and entrepreneurs, from the creative and cultural industries, to apply for its mentorship and incubation programme in innovative and digital content.
DLA aims to incubate emerging talent by offering them a springboard to jump-start and accelerate their projects with the support and expertise of the DLA ecosystem. The programme, initiated five years ago by the French Institute in South Africa, is also supported by SACEM, Trace, TV5 Monde Afrique and the French Embassy in Nigeria, among others.
Led and managed by Wits University’s Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct, with support of the French Development Agency, the pan-African accelerator focuses on the following five key categories:
- Music.
- Immersive experience.
- Video games.
- Animation.
- Digital art.
Applications for the animation and immersive experience categories are now open and close on 4 April, while applications for music, video and digital art can be submitted between 17 May and 11 July.
In 2020, DLA received more than 500 applications from over 32 countries. For this fifth edition, DLA is switching to an online format. The incubation and mentorship programmes, followed by the DLA#5 laureates, will include online activities, online mentorship and participation at online industry events.
Tshimologong Precinct CEO Lesley Donna Williams said the DLA applications reflected on the vitality and uniqueness of the African continent in the field of digital cultures and new technologies.
“Each year, the level innovation in terms of form, storytelling, content and technologies gets better. We expect DLA#5 to once again exceed our expectations and look forward to receiving applications,” she said.
