A sneak peek at new music video by Tay Grin
Malawian hip-hop artist Tay Grin will tomorrow drop a new music video for his latest single ‘Kanda’.
Tay Grin, real name Limbani Kalilani, shared the news on Twitter with his 11,000 followers: “Kanda music video will premiere this Saturday on trace Africa channel 326 on DSTV. Here's a trailer for you. Enjoy!”
The video will premiere on DStv’s popular music channel Trace Africa shortly after 6:30am. The video for Kanda was produced by Solly Moeng from Hood High Fashion Media and directed by Bruce Patterson from Pilot Films. The song was released mid-June this year and features Tay Grin’s fellow countryman Sonye and Nigerian musician Orezi. It was shot in South Africa in mid-July.
Moeng told Music In Africa: “Kanda means to scratch, it’s being used metaphorically. The story is about a guy asking a girl to scratch him. In other words he desires her and wants to know if she’s down. It’s about a passionate moment between lovers but with a dark, traditional twist to it.”
Tay Grin said more tracks with Orenzi were on the cards. “He’s a great talent. I’ve admired his work since the days of ‘You Look Like Rihanna’. Working with him was an absolute pleasure. We’ve worked together prior to ‘Kanda’ and both times have been amazing. We work so well together that we are actually working on other tracks. Lol. But, yeah, he’s good peoples and I’ve taken away quite a bit from our interactions,” he told Music In Africa via email.
“I am super excited about the release of this amazing video. The song is very infectious and I strongly believe it’s going to do well on the continent and beyond. I can’t wait to share this amazing song with my fans. We had a great team working to make this video happen. Great minds came together and the end result was a masterpiece. We didn’t have any obstacles we couldn’t overcome.”
Meanwhile, the award-winning Malawian hip-hop artist has just completed another collaboration with Sonye and Zambia’s Roberto on a song called ‘Sugar Mumi’.
Music In Africa was granted exclusive behind-the-scenes images of the music video shoot. See a snippet from the video below.
