Call for nominations: Ghana Women of the Year Honours 2021
The organisers of the annual Ghana Women of the Year Honours are inviting nominations ahead of the awards’ sixth edition.
Organised by Glitz Africa Magazine, the awards scheme celebrates outstanding Ghanaian women across various fields, including the creative arts, media, education, governance, activism, fashion and health, among others.
“Glitz Africa continues its annual mission to celebrate women who use their expertise, position and influence to inspire others to make a difference in driving other women forward through the Ghana Women of the Year Honours,” Glitz Africa Magazine said.
“The Ghana Women of the Year Honours is a night where women excelling and making a great impact across various spheres are acknowledged and their stories shared so as to inspire the next generation of ambitious and impact-conscious women.”
In 2020, actress, broadcaster and musician Nana Ama McBrown, Media General Group CEO Beatrice Agyemang Abbey and Netflix chief marketing officer Bozoma ‘Boz’ Saint John were among the honourees.
At last year’s event, Glitz Africa founder Claudia Lumor noted that the ceremony should serve as inspiration for young Ghanaian women looking to leave a mark on society. “It’s the reason we are putting these women on that stage, so they can see that everything is possible,” she said.
“The women that have been honoured have been amazing,” she told Muse Africa. “The platform has inspired a huge number of women. The mentorship programmes that we’ve drawn out of this platform have been great; the network and doors that it has opened for a lot of women have been fantastic.”
The 2021 Ghana Women of the Year Honours were preceded by the sixth edition of She Boss, a private networking event in commemoration of International Women’s Day on 8 March. The main awards night, whose details will be revealed in due course, will also be preceded by the She Summit mentorship programme, a representative told Music In Africa.
Interested individuals can send the name of their preferred personality along with a short essay stating why the potential nominee deserves to be honoured in a particular category to womenoftheyear@glitzafrica.com.
The deadline for submissions is 30 April.
