Call for applications: Goethe-Institut project coordinator in SA
Goethe-Institut South Africa is seeking an experienced freelance project coordinator to run two projects in Johannesburg.
The ideal candidate will head Goethe-Institut’s the Science Film Festival and Sustainable Together. The successful candidate will work 25 hours per week with an hourly fee of R200, from 1 June to 31 December 2021.
Sustainable Together
This is a regional project that is locally implemented together with the British Council. It aims to focus on sustainability and civil society initiatives that seek to make an impactful contribution to improve the local environment.
Science Film Festival
The Science Film Festival aims to inspire young generations through film screenings and related play-based learning activities. In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.
Key responsibilities
Sustainable Together
- Handling of internal and external communication of the project with all stakeholders.
- Support of the implementation of up to four grants (communication with grantees, narrative and financial reports, and PR).
- Organisation of up to four webinars with the grantees and other contributors.
- Cooperate on the monitoring and evaluation for the project.
Science Film Festival
- Regional coordination: Communication with partners and jury, facilitation of synchronisation and dubbing of films, and exchange/support on possible formats within the region.
- Communication with partners and coordinating of the activities with the partners.
- Attendance of the festival events (if possible) and further conceptualisation of activities in the context of the festival, e.g. workshops.
General tasks
- Performing the day-to-day administrative duties of the project and other duties as needed.
- Building and maintaining relationships with existing and new partners.
- Budget monitoring and project reporting.
- Coordinating all public relations with the PR department at Goethe-Institut South Africa and British Council South Africa.
- Preparing texts and information materials for internal and external communication.
- Support of monitoring and evaluation.
- Reporting to the head of department at Goethe-Institut South Africa.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification (diploma/degree in cultural/social Sciences, project management, Education).
- Additional qualification in related degrees (ecology or science) is an advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience of relevant work.
- Strong project management, communications, coordination and organisational skills.
- Excellent networking skills.
- Good knowledge of discourses around sustainability, STEM, circular economy and educational film.
- Excellent English written skills.
- Ability to communicate in German is an advantage.
- Flawless attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and flexible hours when necessary.
- Ability to work part time at the office space provided by Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, or at home.
- Non-South African applicants need to have a valid South African work permit.
