SA’s All Star Jazz Night festival is here
A host of South African jazz artists will light up the stage at the All Star Jazz Night, that will be held at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban, South Africa on Friday, 11 November.
The eagerly awaited jazz event is a six-day festival which runs at the International Convention Centre and the Durban Exhibition Centre from 8 – 11 November. One of the star attractions at the All Star Jazz Night is Nduduzo Makhathini, a renowned jazz musician, composer, pianist and teacher who hails from Umgungundlovu, near Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, where he was exposed to a range of music including traditional Zulu music.
Metro FM award winner, Makhathini has toured the world and shared the stage with musicians such as Zim Ngqawana, Feya Faku Quintet, McCoy Mrubata.
Another Kwa-Zulu Natal jazz talent performing on the night is Ernie Smith, a SAMA and KORA award winner who started playing the guitar when he was thirteen years old. Smith was inspired by a mixed tapestry of jazz musical influences such as Pat Metheny, George Benson, Jonathan Butler, Shange and Moses Taiwa Molelekwa.
Other big acts on the night are Zoe the Seed, a jazz singer and teacher based in Durban and the legendary Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble.
The concert forms part of the Essence Festival Durban which features a host of different segments such as the EssenceEATS Festival and ARTiculate Fair. These segments will include arts and literature workshops, a business conference with high-profile business leaders, an empowerment stage featuring international and local thought leaders and inspirational speakers and lots more.
