SA’s Tima Reece makes a comeback with a new album
South Africa’s talented songstress Tima Reece has heeded a call by his fans to record another album.
The RnB artist will launch her comeback album after a hiatus of 9 years.
Titled 9, the eagerly anticipated album will be released at The Fringe at Joburg Theatre on Tuesday 29 November at 8pm. It will be available for public download on iTunes from 2 December and other regular music channels. The first single ‘9’ will be released to all radio stations on 2 December.
The album was produced by Kurt Herman and Llewellyn George. It was recorded at BluBerry Studios and mixed and mastered by Herman. On this album, the talented songstress used sensual beats that explore a multitude of genres that will no doubt excite many people. 9 is a nine-track album with a fusion of RnB, soul, pop and trap. The album explores relationship dynamics such as love, loss and most importantly, the resurrection of hope.
In a statement, Tima had this to say about her return to the spotlight, “My desire to create music has always been a huge part of who i am. I’ve been writing songs since the age of 11 and I have a whole lot more to say now at the age of 33. I’ve been through a whole lot over the last nine years; it’s time to pour it out into what I know best - music.”
For the past few months, Tima along with her team, have been hard at work in the studio fine-tuning an album that she is proud of. “My greatest influence is my children. I had a look at my past and realised that if i don’t pursue my dreams and give it my all, when the time comes for me to push my sons towards their destiny, i would have no leg to stand on. I want to be a positive role model for them. A go-getter.”
Tima who stepped away from a budding solo career for such a long time had been performing in shows and corporate events. Since then, she has become one of the most sought after vocalists and vocal coaches working on projects such as Idols, The Voice SA and many others whilst also being a reputable show producer.
Tima literally exploded onto the SA music scene at a young age, having been discovered at 15 in the television series Shell Road to Fame. Her first hit single ‘Crazy ‘Bout You’ was released when she was 16 years old garnering her nomination in 2001 at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) in the Best Dance Single category. The industry and public alike sat up and took notice! A new star was born.
She was quickly snapped up by a New York based recording company when she was 18 years old and this marked the beginning of her international recording career. While based in New York, she had the unforgettable experience of writing for many influential names in the industry, such as Calvin Gaines, Mark Wilson, Mike Mason, and Marc Dorsey – people who have written and produced albums for stars such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
Shortly after her return to South Africa, she released her debut album which earned her a nomination in the Best RnB category at the 2004 SAMA awards ceremony. Hits such as ‘You Should Know’ and ‘My Body’s Crying’ further established her as a popular RnB artist and these hits still enjoy airplay on local radio stations.
