Call for applications: Music production workshop in Ghana
Ghana-based social impact organisation Youngtrepreneurs is calling on emerging music producers and sound engineers in the country to apply for this year’s edition of the Youngtrepreneurs Music Workshop.
Youngtrepreneurs was launched in 2019 with the mission to infuse professional expertise from industry experts to improve business knowledge, gain job experience and provide sustainable jobs for young creatives in Africa.
The four-day programme will take place from 15 to 18 July 2021 at BBNZ Live in Accra and is geared towards the technical development of creatives in the sector. Participating producers at the event will also have an opportunity to present their instrumentals to Shatta Wale, and the creator behind the most outstanding beat will get the opportunity to work with dancehall star. The prize package will also include a music video along with a robust PR and marketing campaign supported by Youngtrepreneurs.
Some 50 African creatives will be selected for Youngtrepreneurs’ July initiative, led by a cast of industry professionals including producers Master Garzy and Kuvie as well as Songtrust director of business development Mandy Aubry and entertainment lawyer Tope Salami of Whitestone Solicitors and Consultancy. They will provide participants with the tools and guidance to navigate the business of music and each participant will get to combine theory and practical knowledge from the guest instructors.
Once selected, all 50 participants will be eligible for free legal consulting for 30 days after the workshop, courtesy of Whitestone Solicitors and Consultancy. They will also have their Songtrust registration fee waived. Songtrust is a leading digital solution for global music publishing, royalty collection and administration.
Topics to be covered will include music production, building client relationships, publishing rights, royalties, intellectual property protection and monetisation, among others.
Youngtrepreneurs founder Scilla Owusu says her outfit is thrilled about the upcoming workshop. “We have the distinct honour of working alongside seasoned professionals like Shatta Wale as we continue with our mission to provide meaningful opportunities for growth, depth and development for aspiring talent in the African music industry,” she said.
Owusu, who is a sought-after creative director, writer and video producer, was named a Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 personality in 2020 and has worked with top African musicians including Burna Boy, M.anifest, Davido and Stonebwoy.
