Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame launches book
Ghanaian hiplife artist Okyeame Kwame has launched Love Locked Down, a book based on romantic relationships and marriage, in Accra, Ghana, at the weekend.
The book, released on Spotlight Publishing, adds to the rapper’s impressive achievements, which include activism and philanthropy. It was co-authored by his wife Annica Nsiah-Apau with contributions from Kyei Amoako and Eric Gyekye Amankwah. Love Locked Down chronicles the pair’s love journey for the past 16 years, of which they've been for 12 of them. The couple also offers solutions to some marital and relationship challenges.
Okyeame Kwame and his wife revealed that the project was necessitated by the numerous calls that they had received from people who sent them messages to ask for relationship advice.
“About four years ago, we decided that why don’t we put all these ideas in a book because, like any other species of animals we fight over the right to mate, we fight over what to eat, we fight over where to live, we fight over everything,” they said. “But then we realised that the ability to become a human being is to be able to rise above these natural fights so that you’ll be able to solve your all conflicts amicably.”
“Kwame and Annica enjoy a blissful marriage and this has made them not only an exemplary celebrity couple but has earned them some awards and citations,” the blurb reads. “Their marriage, like all marriages, have experienced some ups and downs, however, the key that has kept the boat sailing has been their ability to manage difficult and happy times. Some of the conflicting areas they have triumphed over include; religious differences, social status, educational disparities, occupational hazards, personality differences and auxiliary factors for which if care is not taken, easily degenerate into bigger issues for most relationships. In this book, Okyeame Kwame and his wife openly and honestly share the tricks and tactics that they have employed over the years to sustain their marriage.”
The launch saw readings of portions of the book from dignitaries including Pan-African Heritage World Museum founder Professor Kojo Yankah, playwright and author Ebo Whyte, and Matilda Amissah-Arthurthe wife of former Ghanaian vice-president Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, among others.
Okyeame Kwame said a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of the book will be used to resource clinical psychologists who will offer professional help to those encountering relationship challenges.
“In these exciting times, we feel it is right to invite our brothers and sisters in the diaspora to come home so we build Africa together,” Okyeame Kwame added.
