Nigeria: YCee releases tracklist for debut EP
Nigerian hip hop artist YCee has revealed the tracklist for his debut EP, The First Wave, which is set for release on 7 April.
One of Nigeria's promising rappers, YCee's popularity continues to soar in the country and across the continent, with the video to his remix of ‘Omo Alhaji’ featuring DJ Maphorisa garnering just under 50 000 views only a day after its release. It has been viewed over a million times since then.
YCee's success was spotted by Sony Music Entertainment and he was signed to the global label last October.
"YCee is the future of hip hop in Africa and he will be front and centre of SME West Africa's strategy as we take Africa to the world,” Sony Music Entertainment West Africa general manager Micheal Ugwu said about the artist who came into the Nigerian music scene in 2012 and following a break to obtain a university degree returned in 2014.
Earlier this month, YCee became the first African artist to host Destination Africa, a BBC radio show with British media personality DJ Edun. He was featured on the show as a guest for the first time in January. On the show, the rapper debuted 'Juice' and 'Bubbly', both of which are tracks from the upcoming EP.
The First Wave features contributions from South Africa’s KLY as well as fellow Nigerian artists Falz, Maleek Berry, Seyi Shay and Reekado Banks.
