Zimbabwe: Mathias Mhere to film videos in South Africa

‘Dhindindi Full Time’ and ‘Vana VaJesu’ are songs on Mhere’s latest album Old Testament, which was released at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare last month. Mhere, who rose to prominence when he debuted Anoita Minana in 2012, told The Herald that ‘Dhindindi Full Time’ was well-received by gospel fans.

“I have decided to shoot the video of the song, which has proved to be a favourite for many,” Mhere said. “Several other songs are doing equally well, so we will be pushing for the release of more videos soon.”

Mhere said he was overwhelmed by the quick response the album received from fans. “I am over the moon. I never thought people would sing along to my songs in such a short space of time. I just want to thank God for this and also my fans for always believing in my music. This is so encouraging and I am inspired to continue doing better.”

Since releasing Old Testament, the ‘Favour’ hitmaker has held several concerts in and around Harare. The shows have evidently helped Mhere garner support, with songs such as ‘Nhamo Yekuzvipa’, ‘Vana VaJesu’, ‘Dhindindi Full Time’, ‘Zvinatsei’ and ‘Error’ finding a place on the local gospel charts.

Mhere also told local media that he would take the latest album to his fans in the Diaspora, with a performance in Canada planned in the near future.  

Apart from Manatsa, the album also features Joyous Celebration choir member Mkhululi Bhebhe from South Africa and local gospel artist Bethany Pasinawako. Old Testament was produced by Lyton Ngolomi who has also worked with big names such as Blessing and Bethan Shumba. When Old Testament was launched, the young musician received $10 000 Zimbabwe’s Minister of Local Government Saviour Kasukuwere, who also pledged to give the musician a residential stand.

Mhere is a household name in Zimbabwe. In the past he has worked with Selmor Mtukudzi, Mkhululi Bhebhe and dancehall musicians Killer T and Freeman.
