Call for nominations: 2021 MIME Africa Awards
The organisers of the Merit in Movies and Entertainment (MIME) Africa Awards have opened nominations ahead of the main ceremony later this year.
The MIME Africa Awards aim to celebrate outstanding achievements in music, film, TV, sports and general entertainment, and seek to be a major reference point in recognising and rewarding the best talent across Africa. Additionally, the platform will serve to raise the profile of African and international entertainers and content producers of African descent.
“Africa’s entertainment and media sector – especially in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa – has grown in leaps and bounds over the last two decades as artists have risen from relative international obscurity to global recognition,” MIME Africa Awards CEO Eunice Oheneba Aseidu said.
“The entertainment and media sector is projected to grow at a faster rate than that of the world’s average. The music and movie industry largely contributes to the growth of the entertainment and media sector. In Nigeria, for instance, music is the fastest-growing entertainment and media sector behind the Internet.”
Asiedu added that the awards scheme, which has been in the works since 2019, would augment industry initiatives that unlock value for the media and entertainment sector.
Music producers David Kojo Kyei and Fred Kyei Mensah, Ghana DJ Awards CEO Mercury Quaye and hiplife founder Reggie Rockstone have been named as members of the MIME Africa Awards board.
Nominations will be open in 31 categories and can be submitted here. Entries will close in the first week of July.
