Afropolitan Vibes relocates to Muri Okunola Park
The Lagos series of concerts Afropolitan Vibes has announced that it will be moving venues.
From Freedom Park, Lagos Island, which has held the event since inception, the show will now take place at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island in Lagos.
The announcement is the latest in an evolution of the show from a free concert to a paid one, and from a monthly event to a quarterly one. The first paid concert was held in June last year, featuring performances by Skales, Aramide and Mike Okri.
In the time since its first edition four years ago, the event has become a fixture in the Lagos nightlife, with a faithful following interacting with performers and the concert organisers on social media. And it was via social media that the show's organisers announced a series of changes ahead of this year's first event.
Speaking to Music in Africa about the change, Ade Bantu, co-producer of the event, said the move to the new venue was part of a revamp. “We felt we needed to improve the overall experience of the show,” he said. “This can only be done in a new venue that gives us the opportunity to play with various ideas, including the eat and drink experience at a specially designed food court, a picnic space for friends and lovers, and pop-up bars with a variety of drinks."
The next edition of the Afropolitan Vibes concert will take place on 16 June, a near-first-anniversary of the event since it became a paid concert. Below is a video of the announcement by Ade Bantu.
