SA: Listen to Zahara’s new single Nqaba Yam
South African Afro-soul singer Zahara has released a new single titled ‘Nqaba Yam’. The song is the title track off her upcoming seventh album, which will be released on 13 August.
‘Nqaba Yam’ is the second release off the album after ‘Nyamezela’, which was released in May. The song was recorded in Johannesburg by Zahara’s long-time producer Mojalefa ‘Mjakes’ Thebe and is now available for streaming and download.
“New music ‘Nqaba Yam’ single is available today. I hope you enjoy it,” Zahara wrote on social media.
In an excerpt from an upcoming interview with Music In Africa, Zahara said: “‘Nqaba Yami’ means ‘endure’. It’s like a pillar or rock that you hold on to when there is a turmoil around you ... I have been through a lot in the past years. I don’t write to make hits, I write about my life story. I am a poet and I turn all things that happen around me into songs.”
The upcoming Nqaba Yam album is a raw peek into Zahara’s victories and struggles and features a fusion of traditional Afro-pop sounds and kwaito influences. Some of the songs featured on the 12-track album include ‘Bawo’, ‘Ndikona’, ‘Systems’ and ‘Senzeni’.
