Call for scores: Albireo New Music Collective in the US
The Albireo New Music Collective is calling on composers around the world to submit scores.

Application process
Interested composers should submit their scores via email to albireonewmusiccollective@gmail.com with the following material:
- CV/resume (attached as a PDF).
- Two to three sample works, including at least one chamber work. The scores should be attached as PDF including links to audio or video recordings in the body of the email (YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc). MIDI is acceptable.
- Project narrative (attached as a PDF), not to exceed 1000 words.
- Headshot (attached as an image file) – for publicity, including the winners’ announcement.
- Professional biography, not to exceed 250 words (attached as a PDF) – for publicity, including the winners’ announcement.
Possible topics to discuss can include, but are not limited to:
- Work title(s).
- Basic premise of the piece.
- How you plan to use each instrument in terms of colour, range, combinations of instruments and auxiliaries.
- Programmatic influences.
- Incorporation of electronics/technology (if applicable).
Piece parameters
Length: five to seven minutes (can be a single movement or multiple movements, but the total length including time between movements must fall within this window).
Instrumentation (must write for the full sextet):
- Flute/piccolo.
- Bb clarinet.
- Soprano/alto saxophone.
- Horn in F.
- Trumpet (Bb, C or flugelhorn).
- Euphonium.
- Optional: fixed media electronics.
The piece must be able to be performed both virtually and live.
Prizes
The top three entries will receive:
- A virtual video recording of the winner’s piece in mid-December, posted on the Albireo New Music Collective YouTube channel.
- Tentative: a live performance of the winner’s piece at a conference in 2022 or 2023.
Important dates
The submission deadline is 1 September and the winners will be announced mid-September on Facebook and Instagram with further instructions. The scores will be due to the collective on 1 November.
Additional rules
- Only one entry is allowed per person.
- There is no application fee.
- All composers, regardless of age, level of education, national origin, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or disability are welcome to apply.
- Late/incomplete proposals will not be accepted.
- Failure to meet the 1 November deadline will result in a major delay in the release of the participant’s recording. Extreme lateness may result in forfeiture of all prizes.
- By submitting an application, participants agree to allow the Albireo New Music Collective to use the publicity materials on social media to promote recordings and performances of the piece.
- By submitting an application, participants agree to follow all rules and deadlines, as well as be available for communication via email.
- Applications from participants under the age of 18 will be considered incomplete if there is no email from a parent/legal guardian agreeing to all the rules, including the use of publicity materials.
