Call for scores: International composers’ competition in Poland
Submissions are currently ongoing for this year’s Kazimierz Serocki International Composers’ Competition in Poland.
Now in its 17th edition, the contest is organised by the Polish Society for Contemporary Music, a section of the International Society for Contemporary Music. It aims to provide a springboard to advance the craft of composers around the world.
Regulations
- The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities.
- More than one score per person is permitted.
- It is possible to submit works already performed and/or awarded in other competitions excluding compositions already published.
- The competition will only accept compositions for chamber ensembles of three to five of the following instruments without a conductor: one flute or piccolo, one oboe, one clarinet in Bb/Eb, one bassoon, one French horn in F, one piano, two violins, one viola and one cello.
- The use of live electronics or tape is not permitted.
- The duration of the scores should be between 10 to 16 minutes.
- Scores should be submitted anonymously and marked with an alphanumeric emblem. They should be accompanied by a completed and signed scan of the application form with the following information:
- Composer’s full name: first name(s), surname and gender.
- Date and place of birth.
- Nationality.
- Address, telephone, email address or fax.
- Title and duration of the composition.
- A brief programme note about the composition in English (or Polish and English).
- A biography and a recent photo of the composer.

The deadline for submissions is 1 September.
Prizes
- First prize: 13 000 Polish zloty ($3 300)
- Second prize: 8 000 Polish zloty
- Third prize: 4 000 Polish zloty
The winning scores will be announced on the competition’s website on 13 September. The awarded compositions will be performed at a prize winners’ concert on 6 November at the Wladysław Szpilman Polish Radio Concert Studio in Warsaw.
