Call for applications: Put Me On music competition in SA
Sportscene is accepting submissions for its 2021 Put Me On music competition for a chance to win a recording deal with Def Jam Recordings Africa and R25 000 in cash prizes.
Now in its fourth edition, the initiative is sponsored by Puma South Africa and aims to unearth and develop emerging artists in South Africa.
How to apply
- Artists can submit their music and details via Sportscene Studio’s official website before 21 September.
Prizes
- R25 000 cash prize.
- A recording deal for two singles with Def Jam Recordings Africa, produced by Zoocci Coke Dope.
- A professional music video production.
- Six months of PR and marketing support
- R50 000 of Puma merchandise.
“We are super excited to collaborate with Sportscene,” Def Jam Africa’s Shouneez Wilhelm said. “One of our key objectives as Def Jam Recordings Africa is to unearth raw, authentic and rare talent from all corners of our beautiful continent and help export their unmatched talent to global markets. The Put Me On campaign is so dear to our hearts, as we are passionate about developing artists who we believe have potential to be recognised and acknowledged all over the world.”
Last year, the competition received more than 4 000 entries, with Trusted SLK triumphing as the winner. The rapper has since worked with Tweezy on her single ‘Uyathetha’, which was accompanied by a video.
Other notable Put Me On participants include 2020’s Kiki X Chucky, Chaise Williams, Julezus and Zcasm, and 2019 winner Lucasraps.
