Uganda: Nsimbi releases Mbaga single ahead of debut EP
Ugandan-American duo Nsimbi have dropped ‘Mbaga’ ahead of the release of their upcoming EP Infinity on 12 October.
The song is a celebration of love between two people who never gave up on each other. It is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms, including Spotify.
“What drives this song for us as artists is the need to celebrate diverse cultures, and traditional weddings in Africa are a beautiful cultural explosion of colours,” Nsimbi told Music In Africa. “What is a celebration of love without dancing, expressions of personal fashion and affirmation of tradition? The lyrics have a Jewish niggun chant in the chorus, while the beat drives one to dance.”
The song makes part of the overall theme of love and positivity that runs throughout the upcoming five-track EP. Commenting on the upcoming release, Nsimbi said: “The songs on the EP came together during the lockdown period. At the time, there was so much uncertainty and people were in low spirits. Infinity offers positive vibes about love, the power of human connection, spirituality and the awakening our higher consciousness.”
Nsimbi is made up of GNL Zamba, a Ugandan storyteller and rapper, and his partner Miriam Tamar, an established American singer-songwriter. The award-winning duo is known for its potent fusion of lugaflow hip hop and spoken word, and contemporary music. Their debut self-titled album Nsimbi was released in 2018 and year later the duo won the Best Song and African Rapper of the Year categories at the Independent Music Awards and 254 Hip Hop Awards, respectively.
Apart from making music, Nsimbi create multimedia content and offer workshops tied to the themes of cross-cultural exchange, appreciation and dialogue.
