SA: Joyous Celebration launches Super Sundays
South Africa’s Joyous Celebration has launched a new series of monthly praise and worship online sessions.
The announcement comes after the gospel ensemble released its 25th album Still We Rise in April. Super Sundays will broadcast every Sunday for one hour, with the first session expected to go live on 26 September. The series will end on 26 December and viewers can stream the shows. Access to the sessions will be free for all active JoyousTV subscribers.
“For the past 18 months, we’ve been unable to go on tour and connect with our audiences,” the group’s pastor, Mthunzi Namba, said. “Although lockdown restrictions have been eased slightly, numbers are still limited and many people are still sceptical about attending places of worship. We therefore decided to bring praise and worship into people’s homes at least once a month through these Super Sundays.”
Joyous Celebration co-founder Lindelani Mkhize said: “As the inspiration for Super Sundays is a traditional Sunday service, we have put together an ensemble from our current cast to anchor the praise and worship sessions interspersed with the word and a guest performer from our bigger Joyous family. We are really excited about the opportunity of presenting these monthly sessions, especially in our milestone anniversary year, and hope to continue beyond 2021.”
Joyous Celebration is arguably South Africa’s most well-known gospel ensemble and is credited for growing the gospel scene in the country. This year, the award-winning group signed a deal with Universal Music Africa and staged an all-female concert in celebration of Women’s Month.
