Nigeria: Mavin announces Future Five leadership programme debutants
Nigerian Afrobeats record label Mavin Records has unveiled the debutants of its Future Five leadership programme.
The inaugural class includes Ifeoma Iheagwara, Otolorin Olabode, Abisola Olaniyi, Miracle Udoh and Ridwan Abdulrhameed.
The initiative was announced in May in commemoration of the company’s ninth anniversary. It forms part of the label’s vision to develop and equip five aspiring industry leaders aged 18 to 23 years with training, mentoring and internships in digital, artist relations, public relations, promotions and creative marketing.
“As I’ve always said, nothing is as exciting as watching young people grow,” Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy said, adding that the programme will “help build the future of music business in Africa.”
“We are going to mentor the next set of African music execs. We have carefully selected our debutants and I’m looking forward to all the greatness we’ll achieve together. Welcome to the team, guys. With you, we are making sure the future of the music business is in safe hands,” he said.
Mavin Global’s chief operating officer Tega Oghenejobo said in May: “No matter how genius your potential is, everyone has to do their 10 000 hours. You need practice. There are young people everywhere in need of someone to believe in them. Here at Mavin, we are building structures for career progression where there is a gap in the market, and betting on the future of the scene by bringing through those who will be in charge of it.”
“Young people everywhere are doing amazing things and finding inspiration in one another and in those that came before them,” Mavin signee Rema added. “I want to be a voice for my generation and inspire them through my sound to believe that we have a say in shaping the future. Mavin Records and Don Jazzy helped me amplify this desire, this dream. This label is a platform that keeps propelling me and my sound forward.’’
Mavin was established in 2012 and delivers 360-degree label services as well as management, publishing, sync, production and strategic partnerships, with high-profile collaborations in fashion, sport, design, live events and cross-platform digital content. The label is home to Korede Bello, Johnny Drille, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe and Magixx. Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks and Iyanya are among the label’s alumni.
