Register for streaming webinar in Kenya
Music managers as well as music and visual content creators are invited to register for a free webinar on streaming, which will be held on 15 December 2021.
The panel will discuss prevailing issues around the opportunities and rights management of streaming in music, film, television and video. It will feature speakers such as Mdundo A&R manager Kiplagat Kiprop, PHAT! Intellectual Property founder Mike Strano and intellectual property lawyer Liz Lenjo.
With the increasing importance of streaming as a viable channel of music distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many questions regarding the shortcomings that digital media presents, with many claiming that, in terms of the pro rata payment system employed, streaming platforms favour more established artists with big fan bases over those who are in the early stages of their career. Such issues, among other aspects, will be tackled during the webinar.
“Many content owners do not understand how streaming works, their role, and value to be had,” the organisers said. “Policymakers are in similar position therefore unable to offer the required interventions for it to grow.”
With this panel, the organisers seek to:
- Raise awareness about streaming.
- Raise awareness on the structures required for streaming.
- Identify policy and legal gaps.
Below are some of the key questions that will be discussed:
- What is the legal basis of streaming?
- What rights are involved?
- What is streaming?
- Where does one start streaming?
- Who manages streaming decisions and income?
- What is the potential in streaming?
- What are the policy or legal gaps?
The event will start at 2.30pm EAT.
Registration for the event is ongoing here.
