Prince Claus Fund, Goethe-Institut announce Mentorship Awards recipients
The Prince Claus Fund and Goethe-Institut have announced the recipients of the 2022 Prince Claus Mentorship Awards programme for participation in cultural and artistic responses to environmental change.
Twelve individuals were drawn from 11 countries across Africa, Latin America and Asia, and represent a range of artistic disciplines that address a different pressing environmental issue, often locally and personally rooted, but speaking to the global challenges humanity is facing in the climate crisis.
The group will be guided by five mentors including artist and environmental campaigner Ravi Agarwal, INTERPRT founder and co-principal Nabil Ahmed, scientist and gender diversity advocate Brigitte Baptiste as well as Etcétera Collective co-founders Federico Zukerfeld and Loreto Garín Guzman.
“Our mentors are all specialists working at the intersection of the arts and environmentalism, each bringing a distinct point of view on the theme,” a joint statement by the Prince Claus Fund and Goethe-Institut reads. “With the Prince Claus Mentorship Award, this group of 12 artists becomes part of a yearlong interdisciplinary programme focusing on knowledge exchange, peer connections and collaboration.
“In the coming year, each participant will develop a body of work, and as a group receive mentorship guidance. The programme is a think tank where awardees can exchange ideas and collaborate discovering the similarities their artistic practices entail, sharing the same concerns and visions, even though they come from very different places, and jointly delve deeper into their practices.”
