Call for applications: Guest Artist Space Fellowship Award in Nigeria
In tandem with the launch of its international artist residency programme in Nigeria, Guest Artist Space (GAS) and Yinka Shonibare Foundation are accepting applications for the inaugural GAS Fellowship Awards.
The scheme offers three one-month residencies to West African creative practitioners between May 2022 and March 2023, with two taking place in Lagos, Nigeria and one at a sister location on the GAS Ecology Green Farm in Ijebu.
Fellowships are fully funded, with accommodation, a stipend of $500, and access to a wide range of resources and support. Outcomes from the residency will vary depending on the creative practice but may include an open studio, social media and coverage on the website, exhibitions, performances and public events which will be coordinated and supported by the GAS team in Lagos.
Applications are invited from emerging practitioners defined in this instance as those with five or fewer years of professional practice in all creative disciplines who feel their practice will benefit from a period of dedicated reflection, work and research supported by the GAS.
How to apply
To apply, interested creatives may submit the following using the form here:
- A PDF portfolio of 5 - 10 images (clips for video work must be limited to three minutes in length).
- A CV.
- A brief proposal indicating how the applicant would use a one-month residency to benefit their creative development. This can be submitted in either written (max 500 words) or video (max 3 minutes) form.
The deadline for submission is 20 March.
Note: The selection committee will be composed of artist and GAS founder Yinka Shonibare CBE RA and founder of ART X Lagos Tokini Peterside alongside trustees of both the GAS Foundation and Yinka Shonibare Foundation.
