Call for nominations: Headies 2022
The Headies are calling for nomination submissions from Nigerian musicians ahead of the 16th edition of the awards in July.
The call follows the unveiling of the 2022 programme last week, and an announcement of the addition of seven new award categories to the scheme.
The annual Headies were founded by Hip Hop World Magazine in 2006 and recognises outstanding musicians and music professionals in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
This year’s ceremony, slated for 2 July at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, US, will present awards in more than 30 categories, including seven new awards namely Best Afrobeat Pop Single (Nigeria), Best Afrobeat Pop Album (Nigeria), Best African Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, African Artist of the Year, International Artist of the Year and Music Executive of the Year.
To qualify, all musical works must have been released between October 2020 and December 2021.
Artists or their representatives can submit their entries here.
The submission deadline is 8 April.
The 2022 Headies will be heralded by a number of activities including a conference and music festival, as well as the Mic Check talent show for undiscovered artists between the ages of 18 to 25.
‘Peru’ hitmaker Fireboy DML was the biggest winner at last year’s edition, taking home four awards including Best Pop Album, Best R&B Album, Headies Revelation and Best R&B Single. Afrobeats superstar Wizkid won the coveted Artist of the Year Award.
